The BYU swim and dive program competed in the Cougars’ annual Blue and White meet on Saturday, with the combined Blue Team taking a 247-230 win over the White Team.

Both the men’s and women’s squads first competed in a variety of team-building competitions ahead of the meet, including weight lifting and cornhole.

All-Conference honoree Gwen Gustafson claimed two events for the White squad, winning both the 50 and 100 freestyle. MPSF Freshman of the Year Katie McBratney countered for the Blue Team with wins in the 100 IM, 200 IM, 100 breaststroke and as a member of the mixed 200 freestyle relay.

Junior Josue Dominguez highlighted the actual meet, setting a pool record in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 53.58. An Olympic qualifier for his native Dominican Republic, Dominguez also took first in the 100 IM and 50 breaststroke for the Blue side.

“For all our ups and downs, dealing with the pandemic like so many other teams are, the results of the meet were more impressive than what I was expecting,” BYU head coach John Brooks said. “Josue was very fast and we had some surprisingly good times under the circumstances.”

The Cougars hope to compete at some points this fall, but details are pending and will be posted on byucougars.com when they are available.
