No. 11 BYU celebrates three MRGC accolades in Week 8

LOGAN, Utah - Three BYU gymnasts earned Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference accolades on Monday for their impressive scores in No. 11 BYU's victory over MRGC rival Utah State, 196.925-196.600, in the Smith Fieldhouse on Friday.

Early in the competition, freshman Anyssa Alvarado tackled the uneven bars, achieving a 9.900. This would earn her MRGC Bars Specialist of the Week, her first collegiate accolade. She shares the title with Boise State’s Gabriela Cavinta.

Next up on beam, senior Abby Boden-Stainton notched a 9.900. This stands as her third-consecutive week being the MRGC Beam Specialist of the Week. Additionally, Boise State’s Adriana Popp matched the score. 

Trailing Utah State for a majority of the meet, BYU made a dramatic comeback win after securing a 49.600 tally on floor. Senior Abby Miner-Alder contributed to this after celebrating a new career-high score of 9.975. This would be the highest floor score of the season within the MRGC. This is Alder’s fifth time as MRGC Floor Specialist of the Week.
