No. 11 BYU hosts Boise State and Air Force Academy in the Smith Fieldhouse

PROVO, Utah – After two road meets, No. 11 BYU will host a tri-meet in the Smith Fieldhouse against No. 21 Boise State and the Air Force Academy on Friday, Feb. 19, at 7 p.m. MST.

MEET NOTES

MRGC rival Boise State last faced BYU on Jan. 23 in Boise, Idaho. There, the Broncos walked away with a .075 advantage over the Cougars, winning 196.325-196.250. This ended BYU’s three-meet winning streak against BSU.

Back in 2019, BYU and Air Force battled in a quad-meet in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The Cougars snagged first place, notching a 196.425. The Falcons earned a 194.775, coming in second place. 

Meet Information

THE COUGARS. On Friday, BYU traveled to Cedar City, Utah, to face No. 17 Southern Utah. The Cougars celebrated a 197.075-196.550 win over their MRGC rival. A season-high team tally, BYU's score also equaled the 10th-highest score in program history. Additionally, the team achieved new season-high scores on vault (49.100), uneven bars (49.375) and floor (49.400.) Three Cougars earned MRGC accolades this week for their performances, including senior Abbey Miner-Alder, senior Abby Boden-Stainton and junior Brittney Vitkauskas.

THE BRONOCS. On Saturday, Boise State faced MRGC rival Utah State at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum, upsetting the team 196.400-195.325. The Broncos achieved a new season-high score in the win. Freshman Emily Lopez celebrated a 9.900 score on the uneven bars, winning the event. Further, Erin Elkabchi’s career-high score of 9.850 won her the floor title. Lastly, Gabriela Cavinta earned her second-career win on beam with a 9.875.

THE FALCONS. On Friday in St. Charles, Missouri, the Air Force Academy competed at the Gym Quarters Invitational. Out of six teams, the Falcons finished fifth with a 191.400. A highlight included the team achieving its highest beam score of the season, a 48.650. Junior Daija Stevenson impressed the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation with her 38.575 in the all-around, becoming Gymnast of the Week.
