Shannon Evans collects three MRGC weekly awards

Evans earns three awards in Week 6

LOGAN, Utah - Senior Shannon Evans walked away from Week 6 earning three separate accolades from the Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference: Gymnast of the Week, Co-Vault Specialist and Co-Bars Specialist.

A BYU gymnast has earned MRGC Gymnast of the Week every week since the start of the season.

On Saturday, the All-American earned a 9.850 on vault against Boise State in the Smith Fieldhouse. Boise State junior Gabriele Bouza, Southern Utah sophomore Caitlin Kho, Southern Utah junior Morgan Alfaro also matched the score, sharing the title amongst the four.  

In her second event of the night, Evans snagged another weekly win, earning a 9.950 and tying her career high on the uneven bars. She shared the award with Boise State junior Emily Muhlenhaupt. 

By the end of the night, Evans earned a season-high all-around score of 39.550. The MRGC crowned her as the Gymnast of the Week for the second week in a row.

Coming up, the No. 15 Cougars face No. 5 Denver in the Hamilton Gymnasium in Denver, Colorado, on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 6 p.m. MST.
