LOGAN, Utah – For the fifth week in a row, a BYU gymnast has earned the Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference Gymnast of the Week award. On Monday, senior Shannon Evans was named MRGC Co-Gymnast of the Week for her first time this season.

Evans recorded a 39.475 in her 2020 all-around debut on Saturday against Sacramento State to share this week's top honor with Southern Utah University sophomore Karley McClain. Matching Evans, McClain delivered her career-high 39.475 tally to help SUU earn its highest team score of the season, a 197.225. McClain also earned MRGC Co-Floor Specialist of the Week with a 9.925.

Since coming off injury, All-American Evans competed on the uneven bars for the first time this season, achieving a team-high of 9.925 on Saturday. Her scores aided the team to a 196.625-193.000 win.

Overall, this is Evans' third time being honored this season by the MRGC. She previously earned Floor Specialist of the Week and Co-Vault Specialist of the Week while helping BYU score a season-high 197.075 to defeat SUU in Cedar City on Jan. 24.

Prior to this week, BYU junior Abbey Miner claimed MRGC Gymnast of the Week for four weeks straight.

Coming up, the Cougars face reigning MRGC champion Boise State for the second time this season, hosting the Broncos at the Smith Fieldhouse on Saturday, Feb. 15, at 7 p.m. MST.
