Cougars win Ptarmigan Ram Classic
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Led by Alexandra White, the BYU women's golf team won its first fall tournament at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic today.
"We started off the day very well," BYU head coach Carrie Roberts said. "We played consistently and managed ourselves well throughout the day. It was really windy. The wind came out of nowhere, but we were able find our way through it."
The Cougars shot the best overall score of any team at eight-over-par launching them into the top spot, after being in second place through the first two rounds. BYU finished with a total score of 12-over-par (+12) after three rounds of play.
Junior Alexandra White led the Cougar women shooting even par on the day, and one-over-par for the tournament. She finished in fourth place overall.
Freshman standout Rose Huang continued her success on the course shooting two-over-par on the day, finishing in fifth place overall. Senior Lea Garner and sophomore Kendra Dalton both shot six-over-par on the day and finished tied for 15th place. Junior Brooklyn Anderson Hocker shot ten-over-par on the day.
"The first few holes are birdie holes," Roberts said. "Alex capitalized on those holes and dropped in three birdies. To have two players in the top-10 is incredible. Rose finished in the top-5 in her first tournament as a freshman. We are excited."
West Coast Conference opponent San Francisco finished fourth with an overall score of 891 (+27).
“The girls played great this week,” Roberts said. “I am excited for what’s to come.”
Meanwhile, both Annie Yang and Carly Oldroyd played well as individuals in what proved to be the second and final round of the Hobble Creek Fall Classic, in Springville. Yang finished tied for 17th and Oldroyd finished tied for 24th. The third round was canceled due to rain.
The Cougars will continue their fall season Monday and Tuesday Sept. 28-29 in Portland, Oregon at the Rose City Collegiate.
