WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll recognizes women's cross country athletes

SAN MATEO, Calif. – Thirty-six athletes from the BYU men’s and women’s cross country programs were featured on the West Coast Conference 2020-21 Commissioner’s Honor Roll when it was announced on Wednesday.

Each year the WCC Commissioner’s Honor Roll recognizes student athletes who have excelled in balancing the demands of sport and academia. Athletes are named to gold, silver or bronze honors based on their cumulative GPA.

Seventeen BYU cross country athletes earned GPAs of 3.75 or greater and garnered gold honors. Another twelve athletes received silver honors with seven named to the bronze list.

McKay Johns of BYU men’s cross country posted the highest GPA on the team with a 4.00 cumulative mark as an accounting major. Meri Dunford and Jenna Fitzsimmons achieved the highest academic marks for BYU women’s cross country as each received gold honors for their 4.00s.

A total of 163 BYU student athletes from twelve teams were named to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

BYU men’s and women’s cross country is set to begin the 2021 season by hosting the Autumn Classic at East Bay Golf Course in Provo, Utah on Saturday, Sep. 11.
