A solid victory for BYU women's basketball team over the Air Force Academy 71-51 Thursday night places them in third place in the Mountain West Conference.

For the 13th time this season, the Cougars have had three players score in double figures. Forwards Ambrosia Anderson and Kristen Kozlowski and guard Mallary Gillespie each scored in double figures.

The win improves the Cougars record to 15-8 overall and 6-4 in the conference, while the Falcons drop to 7-15, 2-7.

"I'm happy," said BYU head coach Jeff Judkins, "We are on the right page. We are playing our best basketball right now."

BYU stayed strong on the boards recording a team high this season in conference play with 48. Kozlowski and Anderson led the team with eight.

"I felt the second half we did a lot better job defensively," Judkins said.

Holding the Falcons to only five points for the first 11:30 of the second half, the Cougars tallied a dominating lead. BYU went on an 18-0 run just after the start of the second half.

The first half started slow with missed shots and turnovers. Both teams combined for a total of eight points in the first 5:30 of the game.

Gillespie represented the talent of the young players on the Cougars lineup, leading the team in points at halftime with eight. Six of her eight points came from shots beyond the arc.

Kozlowski, who was named to the 2004-05 CoSIDA Academic All-America District VII Second Team Thursday, led the team in rebounds at the half with six

The Cougars will be playing New Mexico on Saturday at 2 p.m., for their last home game this season. Despite the Lobos getting a week of rest, BYU feels positive about their chances for Saturday's game.

"I feel confident playing them (New Mexico)," said senior center Danielle Cheesman, "I feel that we have a good advantage."
