The Cougars fell to the University of Hawaii in the teams' final game of the Waikiki Beach Marriott Invitational 56-44 Saturday afternoon. The women struggled to make a shot, shooting only 29 percent from the field and allowed the Rainbow Wahine 15 points on turnovers.

"We didn't play one of our better games today," women's head coach Jeff Judkins said, "We couldn't get a basket."

The women had a sluggish start only hitting 6 of 29 shots in the first half. The Cougars went in to the half trailing Hawaii 22 to 15 on the 20 percent shooting performance.

BYU trailed the Rainbow Wahine throughout the contest, but were able to chip away at the lead to bring it within four with just over three minutes to go in the game. However, Hawaii finished the game on an 11-3 run to hand the Cougars only their second loss on the season.

"Hawaii is a very good team. They changed defenses on us and we struggled," Judkins said. "We showed signs of being able to win, but we just couldn't quite get it. We'll learn from this and be able to move on."

The Rainbow Wahine were led by senior forward, and tournament MVP, Jade Abele who put up 19 points against the Cougars. Abele's teammate Alofa Toiaivao also had a strong performance totaling 13 points, including eight in the final stretch, and a game high nine boards. The victory is Hawaii's third straight after beginning the year 0-2 and the Cougars now stand at 5-2.

Despite the loss, two members of the Cougars were named to the All-tournament team, including senior forward Kristen Kozlowski who led the team in scoring against Hawaii with 14 while posting five rebounds. Junior forward Ambrosia Anderson's season high 20 point and season high 12 rebound performance against SE Missouri State also landed her on the All-tournament team.

The women will now return home to prepare for USC in the Marriott Center on Saturday, December 18 at 4 p.m.
