Cougars go for WCC title in San Diego this weekend

PROVO, Utah – BYU softball looks to clinch its third-straight West Coast Conference title this weekend at San Diego.

BYU (33-18, 10-2 WCC) currently has a two-game lead over Loyola Marymount in the WCC standings. San Diego (21-27, 7-5 WCC) is in third, behind LMU. The Cougars have won the past two WCC championships and have won seven conference championships in a row.

In the past three conference series, BYU has swept its opponents. Since losing two games in a row to the Lions, the Cougars have won 11 of their last 12 games. Last weekend, BYU swept Santa Clara in the last home series of the season.

The Toreros had a bye last weekend, but they have been playing well as of late. They have won five of their last seven, including series wins against Santa Clara and Pacific.

Last season, BYU swept San Diego in Provo to secure the 2015 WCC title. The Cougars have won five in a row over the Toreros.

The first game of the series is on Friday at 6 p.m. PDT. The doubleheader will be played on Saturday starting at 12 p.m. PDT. Live stats will be available on the BYU softball schedule page.
