Vorkink victorious on day two at Robison Invitational

PROVO, Utah – BYU’s Dallin Vorkink set a personal-best score of 7604 and moved up the program’s top-10 board as he won the decathlon at the Robison Invitational on Thursday.

Vorkink began the day with runner-up finishes in the 110m hurdles and discus throw, then ended on three straight event wins in the pole vault, javelin throw and 1500m.

With a final score of 7604, Vorkink jumped to No. 9 all-time at BYU, surpassing a score of 7596 set by Mike Davis in 1981. Vorkink made his top-10 entrance with his previous personal-best of 7544 recorded on March 24 at the Texas Relays.

The junior from Kirksville, Missouri is now tied for 15th nationally with Heath Baldwin of Michigan State.

Freshman Joe Nelson joined Vorkink in competition on Thursday, finishing eighth at 5859.
