Two Cougars Named MWC Players of the Week
PROVO -- Two BYU tennis players earned Mountain West Conference Player of the Week honors for outstanding performances last weekend.
Senior Evan Urbina and junior Megan Price were named players of the week Wednesday afternoon. Price is co-player of the week with Utah’s Evgenia Kryuchkova.
Urbina went undefeated in singles, beating Weber State’s Simon Unger in three sets and Utah State’s Sven Poslusny in two, both in the No. 1 position, to lead the No. 38 Cougars to back-to-back victories. Urbina joined with freshman Patrick Kawka to beat Utah State’s Alex Thatcher and Lenny Whiting 8-2 on court No. 2.
Urbina increased his record to 17-5 and 10-3 in doubles with Kawka.
Price led the No. 73 women’s tennis team with two singles victories in the No. 1 position. She also teamed up with Elle Carney to defeat No. 51 Kaitlyn Ritchie and Mallory Weber of Mizzou and teamed up with Callie Craig to defeat No. 22 Kristi Boxx and Abby Guthrie of No. 18 Ole Miss.
Price now has a 10-5 singles record and an 11-2 doubles record with Craig.
The men’s team will travel to No. 6 UCLA Friday while the women play No. 23 Washington at home Saturday.
