Kuest, Rasmussen honored, BYU picked second in WCC poll

SAN BRUNO, Calif. — BYU golfers Peter Kuest and Rhett Rasmussen were selected to the All-WCC Preseason Team while the Cougars were picked to finish second in the 2019-20 WCC preseason coaches' poll released Thursday.

Kuest tallied five tournament wins and posted a 69.79 scoring average during the 2018-19 campaign, the lowest single season scoring average in program history. The Fresno, California native was also named WCC Golfer of the Year last season.

Rasmussen had five top-10 finishes last season, including one first-place finish at the NCAA Pullman Regional where he shot a program-record 195 (-15). He was also named to the 2018-19 All-WCC First Team.

Both Kuest and Rasmussen are heading into their senior seasons.

BYU was picked to finish second to the defending WCC champions Pepperdine, who tallied 64 total points in the poll to the Cougars’ 57. The Waves received eight first place votes and BYU received one.

Saint Mary’s, San Francisco and Santa Clara rounded out the preseason poll’s top five, followed by Loyola Marymount, San Diego, Pacific and Gonzaga.

The Cougars kick off the 2019-20 campaign Sept. 27-28 at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
