Fishburn tied for 24th after day one of NCAA Regionals
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Representing BYU men’s golf as an individual participant, Patrick Fishburn is tied for 24th place after the first day of the Division I NCAA Regional, Monday.
"I started off hitting the ball really well through the first eight holes," Fishburn said. "I had a couple loose shots during the middle of the round that cost me a few shots. The course played pretty tough because of the wind. I'm not out of it. I just need to play well the next couple of days."
Fishburn, who finished in fourth place at the West Coast Conference Championship, shot 2 over in the first round. He is in a 11-way tie for 24th place.
The sophomore started off the round birdying the first hole, and shooting 2 under through the first six holes of play. He birdied four holes in Monday's round of 18.
Fellow WCC golfer, Hayden Shieh of Santa Clara, is also competing in the regional event as an individual. Shieh is in a five-way tie for fifth place, shooting even par in the first round.
No. 11 Arizona State sits in first place as a team, ahead of the pack at 2 under. Arizona State’s Jon Rahm, as well as Rigel Fernandes of South Florida, lead all individuals at 3 under.
Teams and individuals will continue competition, Tuesday. Fishburn will begin the second round at 10:23 a.m. MT, teeing off on the 10th hole. Links to live stats can be found on the BYU men’s golf schedule page.
