BYU head coach Dave Rose
"I was pleased with our mindset coming out to start the game. I thought that defensively we did a good job trying to control Wintering who can really dominate the game from that position. I thought that we rebounded the ball well. Jordan Chatman hit some big shots in that first half to give us some separation. Obviously any time you get 30 assists you’re really sharing the ball and playing the way that we want to play. The second half was a little bit different. We kind of got caught up in maybe trying to outscore them. We weren’t quite as good defensively. They got hot from the 3-point line. We were lucky to make a few shots and keep the score. Zac hit some big shots for us. Overall, it was a good win for us, and we’ll look forward to Saturday."
On game plan:
"It was a high-scoring game tonight. The tempo was fast with Portland. Defensive transition was the number one priority on our board with the scouting report. If that’s it, then you know that they really push it. At the start of the second half, they came out and scored two or three really quick baskets in transition, but for the most part, I thought we guarded that pretty well. Another real priority was guarding the 3-point line. In the first half we guarded the 3-point line pretty well, the second half not quite as good. And then rebounding, they out-rebounded us at their place and we were able to out-rebound them here."
On Gonzaga:
The fact is we were able to take care of business on Thursday. It should be everything we want it to be. You want that game to have a lot of meaning late in the year. And senior night, you’ll have all those emotions you’ll deal with and a nationally-televised game. These are special moments, special times. Hopefully we play well.
BYU guard Chase Fischer
On savoring the last memories:
"We’re on a good little streak here. Senior night is going to be great and kind of our last memory, but I think you want to savor every memory you have in the Marriott Center. It was a good team win. It was a great win from where we’re at. I think it gives us a lot of momentum going into Saturday."
BYU guard Kyle Collinsworth
On 11th triple-double:
"Credit to my teammates. They get open, space the floor well and knock down shots. We played a good pace. We shared the ball. There was a lot of assists tonight. We moved the ball well, and when you do that, the ball comes back to you."
Portland head coach Eric Reveno
"Early on the turnovers killed us and that was the key. BYU leads the league in steals and blocked shots, and they were getting steal and blocking shots and getting out in transition. We were able to score when we got shots, but we weren't getting enough shots and they were getting a lot of high percentage stuff."
