Cougars conclude Texas Relays, Aztec Invitational

PROVO, Utah — BYU women's track and field wrapped up competition from sprinters, jumpers and throwers at both the Texas Relays in Austin and the Aztec Invitational in San Diego on Saturday.

Cierra Tidwell-Allphin kicked off the day in the high jump, tying for 5th with a mark of 1.72m/5-7.75.

Annalise Hart, Brinn Jensen, Kate Thomas and Brilee Pontius closed out BYU’s weekend in Austin with the 4x400, running a 3:42.98 for a ninth-place finish.

Aztec Invitational
At San Diego State, Ashton Riner won the javelin throw with a mark of 51.44m/168-9. The Cougars placed four athletes in the top-6 with Riner, Alex McAllister (3rd, 48.84m/160-3, personal best at BYU), Libby Parkinson (48.09m/157-9) and Nicole Freestone (43.75m/143-6).

FULL RESULTS

BYU athletes also had three athletes finish in the top-10 of the discus throw: Sable Lohmeier El-Bakri (3rd, 53.41m/175-2), Leah Thompson (6th, 51.28m/168-3) and Gretchen Hoekstre (10th, 47.94m/157-3). Sabrina Hartmann set a personal best in the event with a mark of 40.34/132-4.

Gretchen Hoekstre (15.68m/51-5.5), Sierra Freeland (15.53m/50-11.5) and Jessica Thompson (14.82m/48-7.5) placed fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively, in the shot put to conclude the weekend. Thompson set a new personal best in the event as well.

The Cougars will be back in action next week at the UVU Collegiate Invitational on Thursday and Friday, March 31-April 1, and Stanford Invitational on Friday and Saturday, April 1-2.
