PHILADELPHIA — For the second time in as many days, BYU women’s track and field’s distance runners broke a school record at the Penn Relays at Franklin Field.

Meghan Hunter, Alena Ellsworth, Lauren Ellsworth-Barnes and Claire Seymour teamed up in the 4x800-meter relay, placing third with a time of 8:28.24 and surpassing an 11-year old program record in the event, a time of 8:31.59.

Hunter (2:12.88) ran the opening leg before Ellsworth (2:04.98), Seymour (2:07.18) and Ellsworth-Barnes (2:03.22), members of Friday’s DMR and Penn Relays wheel-winning team, ran the remaining three legs of the event close out the race.

The Cougars also competed in the 4x1500m relay on Saturday. Finished fifth were Kate Hunter, Carmen Alder, Heather Hanson and Sadie Sargent, who clocked a 17:29.45.

BYU athletes will also compete at the Desert Heat Classic in Tucson, Arizona, on Saturday, beginning with the hammer throw at 12 p.m. PDT.
