PROVO -- After competing at Utah State just 24 hours earlier, the BYU women's gymnastics team hosted No. 4 Stanford and No. 48 Southern Utah at the Smith Fieldhouse on Saturday night. The Cougars scored a 194.300, while Stanford scored a 196.775 and Southern Utah scored a 194.000.

The Cougars, usually good on the uneven bars, had two gymnasts fall and scored a 48.125, a season low by more than four tenths of a point. BYU also struggled on the beam, scoring a 48.375. In fact, the Cougars scored sub-49 in every event. The 1-1 record on the night puts the Cougars at 9-4 on the season.

"They weren't mentally there tonight," said BYU coach Brad Cattermole. "We've had three meets that we haven't shown up for. The effort wasn't there. The effort to stay mentally focused, and this is what happens. Physically we are capable. We can stay with any team if we hit."

BYU will be back in the Marriott Center next week when they compete against Utah State for the second week in a row. The Cougars have two remaining meets before Regionals, Utah State next week and at Utah on March 23. The meet next week is Friday night at 7 p.m.
