Five-Game Set Falls For Cougars
PROVO -- In a thrilling five-set match, the BYU women’s volleyball team split the 2010 season series with the San Diego State Aztecs in a 2-3 loss at the Smith Fieldhouse, Saturday.
Senior Christina Measom recorded a new career-high kills with 16 kills. Sophomore Nicole Warner also recorded a new career-high service aces with three.
Set one ended in a 25-19 victory for the Cougars. Freshman rightside hitter Jennifer Hamson led the winning effort with four kills on five attempts with teammate Kiana Rogers added 12 assists before the end of the set.
Set two ended on a 25-20 final score with Hamson bringing home the final points on her fourth kill in the 2nd set. Sophomore libero Kendalyn Hartsock tallied seven digs for the Cougars in set two on their way to victory.
The Aztecs took set three 32-30 in extra points. Coming up big to start out the third set was Measom who recorded four kills and three blocks all in consecutive possessions.
Freshman Taeja Afalava and Jessica Jardine also saw some action in set three, combining for seven kills on 18 attempts.
The Aztecs took the game to a fifth set with a 25-21 win in the fourth. Rogers delivered nine assists and Hartsock tallied four assists despite the loss.
Keeping the score within one throughout the entire fifth set, the Cougars eventually fell in a 16-14 final score to the Rebels
The Cougars will next play on the road against the UNLV Rebels on Thursday, Nov. 11, at 7 p.m. PT.
