BYU Loses To No. 12 Northwestern 8-1 In Final Match Of Road Trip
EVANSTON -- After defeating two ranked teams in two days the No. 51 BYU women's tennis team lost to No. 12 Northwestern 8-1 in a non-conference dual match in Evanston, Ill., Saturday.
In their third road match in three days, the Cougars managed just a single victory as they dropped to 6-4 overall. Senior Tara Ferguson defeated Jennifer Lutgert 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 in number six singles to keep BYU from being shutout.
In number one singles No. 50 Katherine Nasser defeated No. 53 Eline Chiew 6-2, 6-1.
In doubles, Chiew and freshman Lu Oswald took Lia Jackson and Marine Piriou to a tiebreaker before losing 9-8 (1) in number two doubles to give the Wildcats their closest match of the day. Nasser and Colleen Cheng defeated junior Jodi Richardson and senior Kim Kelly 8-4 in number one doubles.
BYU will next host a pair of non-conference opponents when Boise State and No. 15 Notre Dame travel to Provo. Boise State and BYU will play Friday at 1 p.m. Notre Dame will face the Cougars Saturday at 3 p.m. in the indoor tennis courts.
