BYU Gymnasts to Take Show on the Road
PROVO -- The BYU women’s gymnastics team will hit the road for the first time this season to take on No. 14 Denver University and Central Michigan University in tri-meet action on Saturday at 7 p.m. in Hamilton Gymnasium on the Denver University campus.
“Both teams that we will be competing against are good teams and we will have to do well to compete with them,” BYU head coach Brad Cattermole said. “But with gymnastics there is no defense so we are concentrating for now on our team and making sure we are ready for the meet Saturday.”
After falling short of Southern Utah University with a score of 193.050, the Cougars are anxious to improve and gain experience. The BYU squad is comprised of many girls who are back after injuries last season. The team also includes three freshmen who will be looked to for an immediate contribution.
Despite their loss last week there were several encouraging things to note for the Cougars. After the trials of last season, it has been a relief that the team has been able to stay healthy thus far season. BYU’s score of 193.050 was higher than any team score posted last season.
“I was pleased with our first meet,” Cattermole said. “We struggled on floor but that is not normal and I think we did about as well as we could have done on the other events. I also believe we will improve as time goes on which is encouraging.”
