Cougars Drop Two On The Road
Two matches into a tough three-match Southern California road trip, the No. 65 BYU men's tennis team is 0-2, losing to No. 3 UCLA on Friday and to No. 54 University of San Diego on Saturday.
BYU lost to UCLA, 6-1 on Friday in the Los Angeles Tennis Center. The Cougars got off to a strong start by winning the first point of the day, taking two of three in doubles action. Carlos Lozano and Gert Vilms upset UCLA's No. 1 doubles team of Jean-Noel Grinda and Jean-Julien Rojer, 8-6.
UCLA came back in singles, with all six players winning in straight sets over the undermanned Cougars. All six Bruin players are ranked.
On Saturday, BYU headed south to take on the University of San Diego, where the Cougars lost, 6-1. BYU's lone victory came in singles, where Gert Vilms defeated Juan Cerda, 4-6, 7-6, 6-0.
The brutal road trip is not over for the Cougars. BYU will stay in California where they will play the University of Southern California on Tuesday. The Trojans are No. 13 nationally.
