PROVO, Utah – BYU men’s golf kicks off its fall season at the Husky Invitational on Sept. 22-23 in Bremerton, Washington.

The Husky Invitational, which is hosted by No. 8 Washington, is a 15-team tournament that includes teams from the Pac-12 and West Coast Conference. Rival Utah will be at the tournament along with WCC foes Gonzaga, Pepperdine and Saint Mary’s.

The Cougars played great last season. They won the WCC Championship, which qualified them for the NCAA Auburn Regional where they finished in seventh place. Aside from the NCAA Regional, BYU finished in the top five of all of its tournaments, including three first-place finishes in the Pacific Invitational, Desert Shootout and the WCC Championship.

Head coach Bruce Brockbank, who was named the West Coast Conference Coach of the year last season, is back for his 22nd season as the head coach of the men’s golf team.

The Cougars are returning seniors Joe Parkinson and Jordan Rodgers, two players who were named to the All-WCC Men’s Golf Team last season.

Parkinson won his first individual collegiate tournament last year in the Pacific Invitational. His 69.58 stroke average led all Cougars and he finished in the top 10 in seven of the 12 tournaments he competed in.

Rodgers finished in the top 20 six times last season, his top finish coming from the Pacific Invitational where he shot six-under-par and tied for fifth place individually. He also tied for fifth place at the WCC Championship, shooting one-over-par.

There is only one freshman on this year’s roster: Austin Banz from Salt Lake City, Utah. In high school, his lowest score shot was 64.

BYU tees off on Monday at 8:00 a.m. at the Gold Mountain Club. Live scoring will be available at birdiefire.com.
