Fee-for-Lesson Form

Per NCAA Bylaw 12.4.2.1, a student-athlete may receive compensation for teaching or coaching sports skills or techniques in his or her sport on a fee-for-lesson basis, provided:
 
  • Institutional facilities are not used;
  • Playing lessons are not permitted;
  • The institution obtains and keeps on file documentation of the recipient of the lesson(s) and the fee charged for the lesson(s) provided during any time of the year;
  • The compensation is paid by the lesson recipient (or the recipient’s family) and not another individual or entity;
  • When it involves more than one individual at a time, instruction to each individual is comparable to the instruction that would be provided during a private lesson; and
  • The student-athlete does not use his or her name, picture, or appearance to promote or advertise the availability of fee-for-lesson sessions.

By signing this Statement, the Student-Athlete confirms his/her understanding of, and agrees to abide by, applicable NCAA bylaws, specifically:

- Facilities owned or operated by Brigham Young University may not be used when providing lessons;

- Playing lessons are not permitted;

- The Student-Athlete must keep on file with the Athletic Compliance Office documentation of all lessons and the compensation received from those lessons during any time of the year;

- The compensation is paid by the lesson recipient (or the recipient’s family) and not another individual or entity;

- A Student-Athlete who is providing lessons on a fee-for-lesson basis to more than one individual at a time must provide instruction to each individual that is comparable to the instruction that would be provided during a private lesson; 

- The Student-Athlete is to be compensated at a rate commensurate with the going rate in the locality for similar services; and

- The Student-Athlete does not use his/her name, picture or appearance to promote or advertise the availability of fee-for-lesson sessions.
